Monogrammed Prayers on Memorial Day

by Alice Jane-Marie Massa

I am a visitor at the graves—
Ave Marias on Memorial Day.
Taps and tulips are there;
peonies and patriotism are there.
Where do I place
the monogrammed prayers?

Post-script: Currently, the above poem is appearing in the online publication Magnets and Ladders. God bless all whom we remember with love and gratitude on this Memorial Day!

  1. A fitting poem. Right to the heart, and full of memories.

    Thanks, and I hope your Memorial day is just that.

  2. I like it. Although my husband Bill isn’t a veteran, I called a flower shop in Fowler, Colorado, where he’s buried, and ordered an arrangement to be put on his grave.

    • Abbie–When a loved one or loved ones are buried far from where one lives, the tugging at the heart-strings plays a different tune. I hope that the sending of the bouquet brings you a warm feeling of comfort on Memorial Day. Take care! Thinking of you and Bill, Alice
